(The editorial from your special correspondent in Atlanta)
Dear clients and partners, Back from Atlanta after a frantic week at VERTICON 2026 (the new name for Heli-Expo), the verdict is clear: the industry has turned the page on futuristic promises (flying taxis) to get back to basics. Safety, profitability, automation of dangerous operations, and supply chain optimization are this year’s watchwords.
Our goal was not to daydream, but to go behind the scenes to find concrete solutions to optimize your operations. We are particularly proud to announce that HeliStore is leading this turning point from the top: we have been crowned “Diamond Dealer 2026” by the Robinson Helicopter Company.
Here is our complete, technical, and detailed file to prepare your fleets for the challenges of 2026.
📸 The 2026 Diamond Dealer Trophy. Cooperation and shared values between HBR and HeliStore.
1. Robinson Helicopter: “Diamond” Exclusives, Safety, and Supply Chain
Being a “Diamond” dealer (the highest level of the Climb Higher program) rewards sales volume and customer service excellence (CSAT). Most importantly, for HeliStore customers, it unlocks exclusive factory programs unveiled during private conferences.
💰 Upcoming Financial and Logistical Levers
-
RHC Leasing (Factory Leasing): A revolution for preserving cash flow! Accessible directly through our factory contact (Chris Gordon), Robinson offers 5-year lease contracts (from 250 to 500 hours/year). The massive advantage: a purchase option at the end of the lease where the price is deducted from the value of the hours flown.
-
“Zero Down Time” Trade-In: Robinson has structured a clear 7-step trade-in process. You have Option 1 (Machine approaching Overhaul) or Option 2 (“Keep flying until you’re ready”). With the latter, the operator continues to use their current helicopter until the new machine is delivered. No more operating losses!
⏳ R22 & R44: Potential extension to 2,500h and 15 years!
This news will transform your operational profitability. Robinson is expected to shortly announce a major extension of the Time Between Overhaul (TBO) for R22 and R44 models. Limits are expected to increase to 2,500 flight hours and 15 calendar years. This drastic increase in the machine’s lifespan will radically change the game by slashing the cost per flight hour—an unbeatable financial argument, especially for flight schools, aerial work, and private owners.
🛡️ Customer Support & Safety Rebates
Robinson is strengthening its support for operators.
-
Safety Rebate: Benefit immediately from a $1,000 discount for the installation of warning systems and onboard cameras (cockpit/tail) on R22, R44, and R66 models.
-
Extended Support: Customer service hours are expanding (6:00 AM to 6:00 PM PST). We now have dedicated representatives for the Americas (Teri Torres, Desiree Ramos, Sandy Morales) ensuring same-day processing for AOG (Aircraft On Ground) orders.
⚙️ RR300: Ending Bottlenecks
Addressing delivery delays from recent years, Robinson CEO David Smith was clear: Rolls-Royce is investing heavily to resolve Supply Chain issues for the RR300 engine. Out with 30-year-old manufacturing methods; in with “Spline Skiving” and “Lights Out Manufacturing” (continuous automated machining). The strict objective: return to a production rate of over 250 engines per year by 2026-2028.
2. The R88 on the Fast Track and US Army Interest in an IFR R66
Robinson’s near future was detailed during strategic sessions, and the manufacturer is moving very quickly to meet exploding demand in both civil and military markets.
-
The highly anticipated R88 (10-seater): The stunning white and orange mockup took center stage. Orders continue to pile up, proof of the market’s immense confidence (the reservation deposit, in fact, rose to $220,000 USD on March 9). The factory’s goal is ambitious yet concrete: the first flight should take place this year. To maintain this pace, the Torrance (California) plant has fully maximized its production space. New machine tools dedicated to manufacturing very large parts have been installed, and the landing gear is now finalized. Regarding the engine, this new turbine will benefit from Safran Helicopter Engines’ powerful global MRO network.
-
The R66 roadmap and military influence: 2026 is a pivotal year. Robinson confirmed it is in deep consideration regarding the development of a future IFR R66. This major evolution is no accident: it is the US Army pushing the manufacturer in this direction. As part of its new training program (FSN), the US Army requires a single-engine turbine helicopter capable of training its pilots for instrument flight (via the TH-66 Sage military variant). This tactical requirement will directly benefit the civil market by accelerating the arrival of an ultra-competitive IFR R66. Meanwhile, FAA certification work for the highly anticipated R66 NXG is ongoing.
3. The Era of Autonomous Cargo: The “Robinson Unmanned” Masterstroke (with Sikorsky Matrix & Rotor AI)
This was undeniably the event that drew the largest crowd of the show. CEO David Smith didn’t just announce a partnership; he officially launched Robinson Unmanned, a brand-new division 100% owned by the Robinson Helicopter Company.
The objective of this new entity isn’t to sell dreams of urban air taxis, but to immediately deploy heavy autonomous logistics in hostile environments (firefighting, offshore, agriculture). To equip this division with the best available artificial intelligence, Robinson made the pragmatic choice to partner with two giants: Sikorsky and its famous Matrixtechnology, as well as the tech standout Rotor AI.
Robinson Unmanned’s strategy is remarkably clever: the parent company (Robinson) provides the industrial firepower and its unrivaled mechanical base (the ability to manufacture and fly thousands of ultra-reliable helicopters at an unbeatable cost), while Sikorsky and Rotor AI integrate their cutting-edge autonomous “brains.” This model guarantees the rapid arrival of autonomous aerial work that is extremely profitable and 100% safe.
The first flagships of the Robinson Unmanned range were showcased on the stand:
-
The R66 TurbineTruck: A true workhorse (proudly sporting the markings of its technology partners Sikorsky Matrix and Rotor AI on its fuselage). No more seats—instead, a flat floor capable of supporting over 1,500 lbs (680 kg) of total payload (1,300 lbs internal or on the hook). Its range exceeds 325 NM (3.3 hours). It features front-loading “clamshell” doors for easy cargo access.
-
The R44 AirTruck: The variant based on the proven piston platform, featuring a specific nose housing autonomous cameras and sensors.
To top it off, the HeliStore team was able to step into the ground control station (the van) with João, a Rotor AI test pilot. Remote piloting via the dual-screen system and HOTAS (Hands On Throttle-And-Stick) controls is incredibly fluid and simple.
The ultimate validation of this architecture? Sikorsky exhibited its own Matrix technology demonstrator right next door, using a similar design fuselage with a massive cargo bay capable of holding entire military pallets. The message is clear: utility-driven autonomy, powered by Robinson Unmanned, is field-ready.
4. Civil and Military Training: The Race for Simplicity
The specialized magazine Power Up, distributed at the show, dedicated its edition to the American military program “Flight School Next” (FSN).
The US Army Revises its Strategy: To reduce its colossal training costs, the US Army seeks to replace its twin-engine aircraft (Airbus UH-72A Lakota) with simpler single-engine turbine helicopters (Contractor-Owned, Contractor-Operated model). Competition is fierce, and I was able to see all the contenders on-site:
-
Bell 505: The front-runner, offering a “turnkey” solution (already used by the South Korean and Jamaican militaries).
-
Leonardo AW119T: Already selected by the US Navy (under the designation TH-73A Thrasher).
-
Enstrom 480B: Also in the race, displayed at their booth alongside their magnificent civil 280FX Shark.
-
Robinson TH-66 Sage: An R66 variant that has already proven its worth with the Nigerian Army (availability rate >90%). This competition is excellent news for our civil customers: it guarantees massive investments in the reliability of these machines.
Civil Flight School: The Guimbal “Tease”: The French flagship, Hélicoptères Guimbal, was celebrating the delivery of its 400th Cabri G2 (a superb blue model on display). However, all eyes were on the large screen displaying a countdown: “Something GRAND is coming!” The entire market is eagerly awaiting the reveal of their future large model (the 5-seat G5), which is expected to be equipped with the Garmin G500 TXi avionics suite. The suspense remains!
5. Specialized Missions: Heavy-Lift, Firefighting, and VIP
VERTICON 2026 highlighted complex operations and saw the emergence of ambitious new players.
-
Heavy-Lift & Firefighting (The Helitak / KAI Duo): Besides the massive S-92 from VIH Helicopters, major innovation came from water-bombing equipment. Note the details in the photos of the Helitak FT4250 system for the Airbus Super Puma (AS332/H225). This ultra-light carbon fiber tank offers a 4,250-liter capacity, installs in 25 minutes, and uses an anti-siphon “Hover Fill” pump—a “must-have” for wildfires. However, the real surprise of the show was the offensive by South Korean manufacturer KAI (Korea Aerospace Industries). They made an impression by presenting their KUH-1 Surion multi-role helicopter (based on the Airbus Super Puma AS332/H225) in its “Firefighting” configuration for the international market. KAI specifically chose Helitak to equip this fleet with belly tanks. This is a formidable and robust alternative set to shake up the government missions market!
-
Scientific Missions: An impressive interior tour of an aircraft configured for the AMS (Aerial Measuring System)at Leonardo. Topographic analysis and radiometry consoles replace the rear bench seats, proving the extreme modularity of modern cabins.
-
Luxury (VVIP): For our corporate clients, the level of finishing is skyrocketing. The Designer series of the Bell 429, with its custom quilted matte gray leathers, is spectacular. The Airbus ACH140 also stood out for its cabin ergonomics and, notably, its giant luggage hold capable of storing the largest Rimowa suitcases without compromising passenger space.
-
Robust and Ergonomic: The R44 Interior Renewal: At the opposite end of VVIP, the industry is responding perfectly to operators who put their machines to the test in the field. The HeliStore team closely inspected the new R44 interior finishes. It’s built to last: ultra-resistant (scratch-proof) textured headliners and pillar covers, reinforced handles, and “Heavy-Duty” molded floor mats designed to handle mud and tools. Yet, Robinson hasn’t forgotten comfort: brand-new seats with a much more ergonomic profile will be available on upcoming factory-exit R44s. It’s a machine designed to generate revenue and rack up flight hours without sacrificing support for the pilot and passengers.
6. The Upgrade Trick: Modernize with the Garmin GI 275
If your dashboard is aging, the ultimate solution is the Garmin GI 275. These Electronic Flight Displays (EFDs) have been certified to directly replace your old mechanical gauges (attitude, HSI, radar altimeter).
Their strength? They fit perfectly into the standard 3-1/8 inch round cutouts of your existing panel. No heavy dashboard modification is required, which slashes installation costs while providing you with 3D synthetic vision (HSVT), traffic, and weather (Connext).
7. The Overheated Pre-owned Market: Boost Your Asset’s Value!
The annual Rotortrade report was at the heart of many discussions. The finding is stark and represents a major opportunity for you: the global supply of pre-owned helicopters is at its lowest level in 5 years. As a direct consequence of this shortage, median prices have climbed by more than 10% compared to last year. Your machine has gained considerable value on the market.
Let's prepare for 2026 together !
Demand in the pre-owned market is currently extremely strong. It is therefore the perfect time to capitalize on your asset and order a new machine!

The Ground Essential: Helitowcart
Safety and the preservation of your investment begin in the hangar.
Moving a helicopter by hand or with an unsuitable tractor means risking unnecessary damage (“hangar rash”), bending skids, and risking injuries to your crew. Their new motorized towing solutions and specific handling dollies (R44, R66, H125) have become the industry standard.
At HeliStore, we systematically recommend this equipment. We can, in fact, include these Helitowcart solutions in your next acquisition package.
