Who will get the highest score of the day?
Heli-Challenge Explanation
Prize to be won worth over $3500
The principle is simple: collect as many points as possible throughout the day. Each event awards points, and the pilot with the highest overall score wins the surprise gift. It’s up to you to aim true, from takeoff right up to lunch.
HeliChallenge
Main Mission · 25 pts
Solve the riddle:
The Riddle
Instructions: Solve the 5 clues below. The first letter of each answer, read from top to bottom, reveals the mystery word. Say this word out loud to the organizer (or the Marshall) to validate your points!
Clues
-
What a light helicopter rests on instead of wheels.
-
The jet fuel that keeps a turbine helicopter flying.
-
The angle a blade makes with the relative wind; pitch changes it.
-
The round instrument face where you read your airspeed.
-
How fast you’re flying through the air, measured in knots.
Five answers, five initials. Read the hidden word.
Landing Mission – Precision Landing · 20 pts
Place the left skid aligned with the line, in a single touchdown, following the Marshall’s instructions. Precision and composure will make the difference.
| Landing Precision | Points |
|---|---|
| Skid right on the line | 20 pts |
| Within 30 cm | 13 pts |
| Within 60 cm | 7 pts |
| Beyond 60 cm | 0 pts |
Drop Mission — “Splash & Drop” · 35 pts
A buoy is suspended from a rope held by your co-pilot. The challenge takes place in two stages: first the Splash (dip the buoy into the water tank), then the Drop (drop the buoy as close as possible to the ground target).
The Splash — dip the buoy · 10 pts
| Result | Points |
|---|---|
| Buoy clearly touches the water | 10 pts |
| Partial contact / grazes | 5 pts |
| Buoy does not touch the water | 0 pts |
The Drop — drop precision at the height indicated by the Judge · 25 pts
| Distance from impact point to target | Points |
|---|---|
| Bullseye (between position 0 and 1) | 25 pts |
| Between position 1 and 2 | 10 pts |
| Between position 2 and 3 | 5 pts |
| Out of bounds | 0 pts |
Mission score = Splash points + Drop points.
If the Splash is not successful (the buoy does not touch the water), Drop points are halved: no water, no glory.
One attempt per crew. Respect the minimum safety altitude and all aviation rules at all times — the Marshall’s decision is final.
Quiz Mission — The Meal Quiz · 20 pts
During the meal, test your knowledge with the HeliStore quiz. Each correct answer earns you points and can boost your final ranking.
The winner
At the end of the day, points from all events are added together. The pilot with the highest total score wins the grand prize. In the event of a tie, the Splash & Drop event will break the tie between finalists.
Total possible: 100 points.

Safety Guidelines & Radio Communication
Safety is our highest priority. Please strictly follow these guidelines for managing ground and air traffic:
-
Communication between pilots: Maintain constant radio monitoring and announce your intentions on frequency 123.45 MHz to ensure seamless coordination with other crews.
-
Occupied activity zone: If a helicopter is currently performing a Heli-Challenge event upon your arrival, do not land directly.
-
Holding point: Join the designated holding point and wait for instructions from the ground Marshall before approaching or landing.
